CANDÁS: PUERTO BALLENERO

En el siglo XIII , más concretamente en torno a 1232, es cuando consta la primera referencia documentada de la caza de ballenas en Asturias, para ser más exactos en el puerto “Entrellusa” (pequeña cala situada en la actual ciudad residencial de Perlora).

Candás fue uno de los principales puertos balleneros del norte de la península ; lo que lleva a dar un importantísimo impulso a la industria conservera , alrededor de finales del siglo XIX Candás tenia : bodegas de salazones , fábricas de escabeche, y varias fábricas de conservas ( La Invencible , Bernardo Alfageme , La Flor , Mardomingo , El Arca de Noé, La Estrella , Ortiz ,Conservas Perán, etc ) ,quedando activas en la actualidad sólo Conservas Hijos de Carlos Albo y Conservas Remo.

En el siglo XVI estando faenando por aguas de las costas de Irlanda ,un barco ballenero de Candas , junto con otras naves vascas , observan incrédulos los marineros como sobre las agitadas aguas , aparece una cruz con la imagen de Cristo Resucitado , la izan a la nave y escoltada por el resto de las embarcaciones , ponen rumbo a Candás precedidas por una nave más ligera , que se adelanta para dar aviso a los vecinos de la villa , reuniéndose estos en la ribera o puerto candasín.

El Santo Cristo fue llevado primeramente al Hospital de Peregrinos de Santiago , anexa a la iglesia San Félix.

Finalmente el Santo Cristo es depositado en el “Camarín” de la iglesia al cual se accedía a través de una escalera de caracol de piedra.
